Birth 2012 Ottawa-Gatineau INFO AND TICKETS

  • Idle – no – More

Parliament Hill Monday, Jan. 28

Just back from Parliament Hill where Nieves and I met Robert Pilon and his friends from Oshawa + Durham Region Metis Council.

Robert gifted us with the Metis flag with the 8 symbol for bringing two cultures together as One.

As many may have noticed the logo designed by Diane Bourbonnais for Birth 2012 has on it the number 8 side ways that links two inspiring message surrounding the Earth.

Becoming One + Linking Hearts + Minds

A Grandmother spoke passionately today to the fact that there is no more powerful energy than “love” to inspire hope. She and I hugged upon immediately meeting affirming in our hearts the instant recognition.

That the message Robert wrote many weeks ago intellectually is already planted in many hearts. That as we meet and share we inspire each other to discuss new thoughts + ideas.

He wrote: “Going forward there are discussions to be had and work to be done all at the table exploring new ways to move forward. To start thinking- and speaking-differently.

We need to have a vision for our future-and this vision will come with new words, new ideas, and a new confidence that things can – and WILL – change for all aboriginal people including the Metis.

And from my perspective on behalf of the Birth 2012 + Beyond initiative in the heart of Canada. I believe that this process is for all Canadians and for a healthier nation and democracy. That we are all seeing unfold when people of good hearts meet. And awaken in each other what is truly most important. To learn to walk more gently and care for ourselves and each other and in so doing the Mother Earth our one home.

That as we become more conscious we can see with the eyes of the Inuit Women’s Perspective on Climate Change: and the impact on Inuit Women’s Health that their concern and the impact of not caring for Earth is no different than ours.

Health and well-being both of ourselves and our one home must become the priority to value. In the new world we are all creating it is time to give voice to what we are given to know. And to share at a deep heartfelt level in order to be heard:

That the Ecology must become our new Economy is evident! We must all learn to embrace living more simply and electing representatives who share a common ideal and can empower us all to become modern entrepreneurs. In becoming with indigenous peoples better stewards of Earth.

Remembering at our roots that we are all indigenous.

In these times the women’s voices of creativity, well-being, and creation are leading the way for a circle of all nations and a culture of peace that Algonquin spiritual leader Grandfather William Commanda envisioned for all Citizens of Earth.

Declaration of Commitments to Indigenous Peoples

Unprecedented gathering marks the 150th anniversary of 1863 Peace Treaty

ACTION ALERT — January 21, 2013

Indigenous Nations from across the United States and Canada and their Allies will converge at the Yankton Sioux Reservation, South Dakota for a historical event, “Gathering to Protect the Sacred From the Tar Sands and Keystone XL.” Taking place January 23rd-25th, 2013, this event will be held at the Ft. Randall Hotel and Casino, 38538 South Dakota Highway 46, Pickstown, SD, 57356.

Those attending intend to sign an International Treaty to effectively block the Keystone XL TransCanada Pipeline. Representatives of Indigenous Nations and their Allies, including; farmers and ranchers, business and environmental leaders, leading treaty and environmental lawyers, news media, and other concerned citizens will gather for unprecedented unified action.

This International Treaty to Protect the Sacred from Tar Sands and Keystone XL will build upon the Save the Fraser River Declaration, the Rights of Mother Earth Accord, Indigenous Leaders Spiritual Declaration, the Earth Charter, and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This International Treaty between Indigenous Nations is grounded in the January 23rd, 1863 Pawnee Nation and Ihanktonwan Dakota / Nakota Peace Treaty. Witnessed by representatives of the Ponca Nation and the United States government this was the first written Peace Treaty between Indian Nations in history.

The Gathering will be opened by Sacred Ceremony to honor and reaffirm the Treaty of 1863 as well as to formalize a united stand by the Pawnee Nation and the Yankton Sioux Tribe to stop the Keystone XL Pipeline. With this legal and spiritual foundation other Indigenous Nations and Allies will unite at the conclusion of the Gathering in the signing of the International Treaty to Protect the Sacred from Tar Sands and Keystone XL.

President Barack Obama has been directly invited to send a representative to the gathering to hear all concerned and to witness the unprecedented unified action that will be taken. Through this action the United States Government will be notified that any future approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline will be considered a further grave abrogation of the 1863 Treaty, and possibly other related treaties, and would have very regrettable consequences. For instance, on December 21st 2012 by Resolution, the Black Hills Sioux Nation Treaty Council also stated they were “vehemently opposed to the construction of the TransCanada/Keystone XL Pipeline Project on any Aboriginal or Treaty lands”.

We are calling on all allies and supporters to come forth and participate in building the momentum to Protect the Sacred from Tar Sands and the Keystone Pipeline. More information can be found at The Ihanktonwan Treaty Council, the Pawnee Nation, the Brave Heart Society, and the Four Worlds International Institute are hosting the event.

There are a few things you can do to support this unified action:

If you want more background on this unprecedented moment, read Bill McKibben’s piece titled “Idle No More – Think Occupy with Deep, Deep, Roots”.

Supporters of the gathering include: The Black Hills Treaty Council, The Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Association, Yinka Dene Alliance, Tsleil Waututh First Nation, Indigenous Environmental Network, West Coast Environmental Law, Honor the Earth, Walking the Red Road,, Sierra Club, National Wildlife Federation, National Resource Defense Council, Bold Nebraska, Public Citizen, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, United Religions Initiative North America, Forest Ethics, Tanker Free BC.

Thank you for joining with us to Protect the Sacred. Together we can act now to change the course of history and preserve Mother Earth for our children, and for the many generations to come.
